This is the ugly duckling in the family of pumpkin and cucumber. It is also known as alligator pear, African cucumber and bitter goard. It has quite a bitter taste as the name suggests.  As weird as this vegetable may look on the outsite as healthy it is. If you want to eat healthy, you should really give this green veggie a try.

Cooking with bitter gourd:

Wash it, cut in half lengthwise and remove the seeds, slice it in parts and bake it with an onion and garlic (quickly ready), or fill with meat mixture and let it cook in the oven.

Is bitter gourd healthy?

It makes up for its appearance by being packed with vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B11 and C) and minerals (magnesium, phosphorus, iron and zinc). It is also a natural antibiotic. The real beauty of this vegetable comes from within!

Storage:

In the fridge you can preserve bitter gourd five to seven days. If it’s chopped, consume within a day.
